Man suffers severe head injury after jump from moving bus

DES MOINES, Wash. — A man was critically injured after he jumped out of a moving bus as it traveled on Interstate 5 Tuesday morning.

The Washington State Patrol said the Metro Access bus was heading northbound on I-5 at 9 a.m. near Des Moines when the man climbed over another passenger in an effort to reach an emergency exit window.

The bus driver, who was going to a special needs facility in SeaTac, tried to pull over when he saw the man’s actions, but the bus was going about 35 mph when the man opened the window and jumped out head-first.

The 41-year-old man has severe head and other injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Metro Access buses are used for persons with disabilities.
