Man shot in mouth in West Seattle

A man was shot in the mouth Wednesday afternoon while walking his dog in West Seattle, and police were searching for the gunman.

The man was hit by a pellet shortly before 5 p.m. in the 4700 38^th Avenue Southwest. Witnesses helped the 31-year-old man to a nearby fire station where he was initially treated.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. His injures are not life-threatening.

Detective Jeff Kappel did not immediately give a suspect description.

A man who walked out of what Kappel described as a “possible suspect residence” was interviewed by police, but not arrested. Officers did not elaborate.

“It is unknown at this time where exactly the projectile came from or if the victim and suspect(s) are known to each other,”Kappel said in a statement.
