Armed man shot, killed by Lakewood police

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Police shot and killed an armed man in Lakewood who had a long criminal history and was wanted on a felony theft warrant.

Police said they received a call around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday from someone saying the 28-year-old man was in the Tillicum neighborhood of Lakewood.

Two officers went to a home in the 14900 block of Washington Avenue Southwest, and while they were waiting for backup, they spotted the man in the window of the home.

Police said the man pulled out a handgun and refused orders to put it down.

According to police, the man did something the officers perceived as a threat, and two officers opened fire from outside, hitting the man inside the home.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man had a long criminal history and was well known to Lakewood police.

The shooting is under investigation.
