Man shot in head in Arlington dies

ARLINGTON, Wash. — A 20-year-old man who was shot in the head Saturday evening after an altercation at an Arlington park has died, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. with an altercation at Blue Stilly State Park and ended at a nearby gas station, according to the sheriff’s office. The man was shot somewhere between the two locations.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande spoke with a witness, Marc Zajac, who works at the gas station.

“I was in the bathroom washing my hands, and I heard two pops,” Zajac said. “I thought somebody was knocking on the bathroom door, and I came out and there was nobody in my store. Just as I came out, the kid that was driving the red car came running in, screaming for help that his friend had been shot in the head. So I turned around and looked, and sure enough, yeah, the kid was shot in the head.”

Zajac immediately called 911.

“I got off the phone with them and went outside, tried to check his pulse, tried to check on him,” Zajac said. “He was alive, he was still breathing, barely.”

When medics arrived at the scene, the victim was taken to Providence Hospital in Everett and then transferred to Harborview Medical Center, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.  On Monday, the Sheriff's Office said the victim had died.

A group of men were also in the man’s vehicle and spoke with investigators.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect is still at large.

Blue Stilly State Park was closed off Sunday for deputies to investigate the scene.
