A man with a machete caused a scene outside a Lake City dollar store and was later arrested by police.
The 53-year-old man set off a three-hour police search late Friday morning after he was growling and performing martial arts moves with the machete.
“As officers were en route to the call, they were told the man had sheathed his machete, put it under his coat, and walked off,” police spokesman Jonah Spangenthal-Lee said in a statement. “Officers searched the neighborhood and checked inside several businesses, but weren’t able to locate the man. However, they continued their search throughout the afternoon.”
The man was found shortly before 2 p.m. after police received a call from a woman saying she saw a “wild-eyed” man in a parking lot near Northeast 125th Street and Lake City Way Northeast. She said the man pulled out a machete and pointed it at her.
The woman sped away, Spangenthal-Lee said.
The man was booked into King County Jail for a weapons violation.
