Maple Valley man tells police he shot two intruders

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded early Friday morning near Maple Valley, said the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened in the 23200 block of 212th Avenue Southeast.

Before 4 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a 66-year-old homeowner.

The homeowner said there were intruders on his property trying to break into a container, said the Sheriff’s Office.

The phone line went dead and the homeowner called back and said he shot two people.

When officers arrived, they found one man dead at the scene and a woman critcally injured.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Sgt. Cindi West of the King County Sheriff’s Office told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that there have been a number of previous calls at the residence of people stealing items from the property.

The homeowner is being held at the house for questioning.

Detectives will continue to investigate the shooting.
