• Man killed in Everett apartment fire identified

EVERETT, Wash. - The Snohomish Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man killed in an Everett apartment fire last week as 61-year-old Michael Beard.

The Medical Examiner listed his cause of death as smoke inhalation.

Damages of the building destroyed in the three-alarm fire are estimated at $1 million, not including its contents.

The fire displaced occupants of 13 apartments in the two-story building.   The 118-year-old building also housed a flea market, pizza parlor and cabinet shop on the main floor.     An adjacent building has smoke and water damage.

The city said police and fire investigators continue to look for the cause of Thursday's fire.

Authorities had to wait for demolition work to be completed before stabilizing the building Saturday so the victim's body could be recovered.

Tenants were allowed back inside Tuesday to recover belongings.

The city of Everett has opened a phone line for anyone who might have questions about the fire.  Those with questions can leave a message at 425-257-7011.   Staff from the city will review the messages several times a day and then direct the call to the appropriate  department for a response.
