Man injured after firework explodes in face

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A 23-year-old man was injured when a firework exploded in his face Tuesday evening in the South Hill area, according to the Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The incident happened in the 13600 block of 94th Avenue East before 11 p.m.

According to Randy Stephens with the Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, some fireworks are legal in unincorporated Pierce County, and the man was most likely using illegal ones.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center to treat his chest and facial injuries.

According to Stephens, doctors said the man lost his vision in one of his eyes.

The man has not been identified at this time.

Police and freighters will be out on patrol Wednesday to enforce laws on fireworks.
