Passenger injured after being struck by vehicle on I-405

NEWCASTLE, Wash. — A man is recovering at Harborview Medical Center after he was hit by a vehicle Friday night on Interstate 405, said the Washington State Patrol.

The incident happened in the northbound lanes of I-405 around milepost 9 before 11 p.m.

The State Patrol said a driver in a Dodge Intrepid pulled over on I-405. A passenger in the vehicle got out, ran across lanes into traffic and was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

Crews took the man to the hospital. As of Friday night, the man was in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep was hurt, but was treated at the scene.

The State Patrol said drugs and alcohol were not factors, and they will continue to investigate the incident.
