Man with history of DUI's suspected in West Seattle drunken driving crash

SEATTLE — A man with two prior DUI convictions and other dangerous driving offenses is behind bars in connection with a fatal drunken driving crash.

Seattle police said 43-year-old William Kelly Edmon caused a crash Saturday night just after 9 p.m. at Delridge and Kenyon in West Seattle. A man riding in the bed of Edmon's pickup truck was ejected and died at the scene. The dead man is not identified in police or court documents, but a memorial at the scene remembers Mike Fisher.

On Monday, Edmon's bail was set at $1,000,000 while prosecutors prepare to file vehicular homicide charges against him. Edmon has two prior DUI convictions, plus convictions for reckless driving and negligent driving. He's also been convicted for failing to use an interlock device. According to the Seattle Police Department, Edmon admitted to officers that he had been drinking before he ran a red light and struck an SUV driven by Salvadore Rufino. Rufino spoke to a KIRO 7 news crew Saturday night and said, "I saw the car coming so fast, I stepped on my brake. "Still, the two vehicles collided.

On Monday, Edmon waived his right to appear before a judge at his bail hearing. Judge Arthur Chapman, citing Edmon's DUI history, set a high bail of one million dollars. "It's pretty obvious that there are significant problems with alcohol and driving while under the influence and the community is at significant risk with Mr. Edmon released," Chapman said.

Edmon's family and friends declined to speak on his behalf. According to the police report, Edmon had no recollection of the crash, or what lead up to it.
