COVINGTON, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol arrested a man on drug charges after he was seen riding in a precarious position outside a moving semi-truck.
On Wednesday morning, WSP dispatch received reports of a man standing between the cab of the truck and its trailer as it headed east on State Route 18 near Covington.
A state trooper eventually stopped the truck east of Covington and found the man between the rear of the truck’s cab and the container trailer.
The man was detained and eventually arrested on drug charges.
According to police, the man said he had been hiding from gang members. Initially, he had been hiding under the parked truck while it was in the Puyallup area. As the truck started up and began to move, he jumped into position between the cab and the trailer and rode it until the truck was stopped by the trooper.
The driver of the truck said that he didn’t see anything unusual during his pre-trip inspection. He was not held by police.
