Man fatally shot outside of Lacey home

LACEY, Wash. — Lacey police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who was shot outside his home on Saturday night.

Police found James Kirk near the front door of his house in the 5700 block of 19th Avenue Southeast at about 9:50 p.m. He was taken to St. Peter Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kirk's father, Mark Kirk, said he was asleep on Saturday night when he heard gunshots. He came into the living room to find his son collapsed inside the front door.

"Apparently he was shot in the mouth, and the bullet lodged itself in his shoulder, and he drowned in his own blood," Kirk said.

Kirk said his son was troubled and was on probation for a domestic violence offense but that James was improving his life.

Police said they have leads in the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Lacey Police Department at 360-459-4333 or Olympia-Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
