Man with chain causes standoff in North Seattle

SEATTLE — A man armed with a chain and making threats to kill people was arrested after he barricaded himself in a North Seattle hotel room, Seattle police said.

Police were called to Seal's Hotel at 12035 Aurora Ave North at 5 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a disturbance.

Police said the man was armed with a chain.

A SWAT team threw a flash-bang grenade inside the room in an effort to get the man out.  The man threw out some kind of weapon, possibly an ax, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alexandra Limon said.

Hotel guest Joe Herlick said he was told to evacuate by the hotel manager.

Herlick said the barricaded man had pounded on his door earlier and he saw him swinging a chain.

The man was taken into custody about two hours later.
