Man accused of dragging Tacoma officer is arrested

TACOMA, Wash. — A man wanted for dragging a Tacoma police officer during a traffic stop Sunday night was arrested overnight Thursday on felony assault charges.

Pierce County Deputies pulled over a man who was driving with his lights off in the 5200 of East I Street around 3 a.m.

When deputies asked for the man's identity, he gave a fake name, but deputies recognized the man from a previous booking photo that law enforcement had been circulating since Sunday's incident where he drove away from a traffic stop while dragging a Tacoma police officer.

The officer was able to free himself and fire several shots at the suspect's vehicle, but it was not known if the man was injured by the gunfire.

The suspect was taken into custody Thursday morning without incident. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
