Man arrested after woman's throat slashed in South Lake Union

SEATTLE — Police arrested a man early Friday who they say slashed a woman's throat in South Lake Union.

Shortly before 2 a.m., police went to check on a report of a woman who appeared to be intoxicated near Boren Avenue North and Mercer Street.

The officer who found the woman saw she had a severe cut to her throat. Because of her injury, the woman was unable to speak, but was able to write notes to tell the officer her attacker’s location.

Additional officers arrived and found a 62-year-old man inside a van parked nearby. Police say the man was not hurt but was covered in blood and admitted he was involved in the attack.

Seattle fire medics treated the woman at the scene and then took her to Harborview Medical Center.

The man was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.
