SEATTLE - An 18-year-old man has been charged with robbery after police said he put a woman in a choke hold and stole her iPhone in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

The robbery happened about 3 p.m. Nov. 21 outside the Planned Parenthood on 21st Avenue East and East Olive Street.

The victim told police she had just taken her phone out, when the suspect, Sisay Woldemariam, sneaked up behind her.

According to the victim, Woldemariam grabbed her around the neck, then bent her hand back, prying the phone away from her.

The thief ran off and Volkman called 911. Police said they tracked the suspect down a few blocks away, where he resisted arrest and ran off.

According to police reports, the officer then chased Woldemariam down and arrested him. The victim’s phone was found in the suspect’s pocket, police said.

Woldemariam is being held on $35,000 bail. He’s expected to have an arraignment, where Woldemariam will enter a plea, later this month.
