Wrong-way driver causes I-5 shutdown in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The northbound lanes of I-5 were closed in Mount Vernon after a wrong-way driver struck two vehicles early Wednesday.

The driver was seen heading southbound in the northbound lanes and was weaving across the road in Whatcom County.

Police said the driver later hit a passenger vehicle and a semi in Mount Vernon.

Troopers were able to stop the vehicle at Kincaid and arrest the driver for investigation of DUI.

The crash caused the closure of the northbound lanes for about 30 minutes.

No one was hurt.
