Woman fatally stabbed in Kent; suspect in custody

KENT, Wash. — A 20-year-old woman was fatally stabbed and a suspect was arrested after a standoff Sunday in Kent, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a woman being stabbed in the 24600 block of 64th Avenue South at about 7 a.m.

Police said witnesses reported a man had fled into a nearby apartment.

When police arrived, they found an unresponsive 20-year-old woman in a hallway with an apparent stab wound.

Police and medics performed life-saving measures on the woman but she died from her injuries at the scene.

Investigators said the suspect barricaded himself and refused to leave the apartment.

After hours of negotiations to get the suspect out, a SWAT team deployed gas in the apartment and he surrendered.

The 24-year-old man was taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
