Wedged semi-truck under Battery Street tunnel halts traffic

A semi-truck wedged under the Battery Street tunnel brought traffic to a crawl for hours in Seattle on Friday.

It closed one northbound lane on Northbound State Route 99 just before 5 p.m., creating a four-mile backup.

The oversized load carried a generator, according to Seattle Department of Transportation. A SDOT spokesman told KIRO 7 News the truck did not get validated for the load, and there will be an infraction.

Crews cleared the truck from the bridge around 6:30 p.m.
