PALOUSE, Wash. — "When I finally got it done, I watched it about 50 times in a row," photographer Matt Krzycki said of watching the finished version of a video he's worked on for around four years.

In the video, the moon is seen setting over Washington state’s Palouse Falls.

Its shadow cuts a line of light over the canyon. It creeps up the side of the serene waterfall.

"I love that I had the opportunity to notice the moon shadow and how it interacts with the canyon," Krzycki said. "I tried to capture the time-lapse at least five times. I knew it would be good and worth the effort. I made it because I wanted to watch it."

You can watch the full, stunning video here or right below.

Krzycki is from southern Missouri and lives now in Seattle. He spent the night at the falls to capture the stunning video.

"The Palouse is a great escape from the grey (of Seattle)," Krzycki said. "As an astrophotographer, I'm always looking for clear skies, and the Palouse is a pretty good bet."

Palouse Falls was carved more than 13,000 years ago and is among the last active waterfalls on the Ice Age floods path, according to the Washington State Parks.

The Palouse River drops 200 feet, then moves through a winding gorge of columnar basalt to the Snake River.

Krzycki said he is mostly drawn to landscape photography and travels the Northwest to shoot pictures of the Milky Way.

Some of his work hangs on the walls at his home, joined by paintings by Seattle painter Ryan Henry Ward. (See Krzycki's photographs for sale here.)

This summer, Krzycki will be focusing on star trails.

"I think I'm trying to get a better perspective on my universe and how it works," Krzycki said.
