Washington Memorial Park graves vandalized

SEATAC, Wash. — Sherry O'Brien was devastated when she visited the graves of her parents and grandparents on Sunday on International Boulevard in SeaTac.

“It was very hurtful to see my parents' headstone the way it was,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien grew a bit emotional thinking of her parents, who she still misses dearly, and thinking about the state of their final resting spots.

She took photos showing deep tire tracks running through the graves of her parents and her grandparents.

Though you can't see it, she said the area was littered with debris before she and her family cleaned it up.

“That's supposed to be a peaceful setting for people that pass and relatives that come out to see their people,” O’Brien explained.

When KIRO 7 stopped by on Wednesday, though the ground was soggy from all the rain, we still saw the indentations from the tire tracks.

KIRO 7 was also there on Tuesday and saw some other parts of the cemetery that looked pretty torn up, too.

“It's supposed to be kind of like everything is going okay, well kept up but it isn’t,” O’Brien added.

It's unclear whether the tire tracks are intentional or accidental. It's also unknown who may have caused them.

So far, O'Brien hasn't gotten any answers.

After speaking to a receptionist at the cemetery on Sunday and showing her these photos, she was promised a phone call. But three days later, and still not a peep from the cemetery.

“It shows me they don’t have no respect for the people that are buried there,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien hopes by speaking up, officials will step up their maintenance of the cemetery.

KIRO 7 also reached out to Washington Memorial Park and still have not heard back.
