Washington congresswoman asks about benefits to corporations over people in viral video

As Republicans in Congress push for a tax overhaul they say will benefit American families and companies, Democrats are expressing strong opposition, saying the GOP will give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy at the expense of the middle class.

A Washington State congresswoman quizzed a congressional staffer about the GOP tax plan. In a video with more than one million views online, DelBene compares the benefits to companies and the increased expenses for individual taxpayers.

“Will a teacher in my district who buys pens, pencils and paper for his students be able to deduct these costs from his tax returns under this plan?” DelBene asks.

The teacher will not.

“Will a corporation that buys pens, pencils and papers for its workers be able to deduct those costs from its tax returns?” DelBene asks.

The corporation will.

Does the #GOPTaxPlan treat corporations and individuals the same in terms of who gets to keep deductions and who doesn’t? Nope, not even close.
