VIDEO: Girl who survived brain surgery playing drums after help from UW team

Jayna Doll, 10, has been partnering with University of Washington students and engineers professors to develop orthoses that allow her to do the things she’s always dreamed of – specifically, playing the drums. (UW photo)

Jayna Doll, a 10-year-old from Federal Way, had half her brain removed as a baby to alleviate life-threatening seizures.

The surgery saved her life, but left her with motor impairments throughout half her body.

Jayna partnered with UW students and engineers professors to develop orthoses that allow her to do the things she’s always dreamed of – specifically, playing the drums.

University of Washington staff produced a video telling Jayna’s story. Watch her story below.

The lead researcher on the project was UW mechanical engineering professor Kat Steele. Follow this link to read more about the UW team and Jayna's story.
