New York investigators are asking for help in identifying an unknown child who may have spent time in Washington state.

Skeletal remains of the child were found inside a blue metal storage trunk in the basement of a Greece, New York apartment complex in 1976.

The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children continues to look for answers in the 41-year-old, unsolved case.

As a part of its ongoing search, an isotope test found the child may have spent the first years of his life in the northwest, largely in Washington state. A new map shows he likely spend the last years of his life in the southeast.

Greece Police Department confirmed the child is male through DNA testing. He had brown hair and was found wearing a light blue pajama top with a deer design on the left chest area. He was also wearing a plastic diaper that was fastened with two stainless steel diaper pins.

Investigators found a prominent bulge on the back of his head. While it’s not clear what caused it, it likely meant the child could not walk and had developmental deficiencies.

The child was likely killed when he was around 2 or 3 years old.
