U-Haul stolen from Federal Way parking lot with priceless family memories inside

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The search is on for whoever stole a U-Haul filled with priceless items belonging to a family in Kent from a parking lot in Federal Way.

Andrey Kolyadich parked the rented 15-foot U-Haul in the parking lot right next door to the Courtyard Marriott where he was staying early Friday morning.

Just hours later, he came down and found the truck was gone.

“Anything that we collected for the last 20 years was gone,” Kolyadich said. “All of the memories of my two siblings who have passed away.”

Kolyadich's family just moved to Kent from California.

He offered to drive down a truckload of household items, ranging from his dad's furniture, to his sister’s wedding dress, to priceless family albums.

Kolyadich says it was on Saturday morning when the U-Haul was located at the Auburn Environmental Park about 6 miles away from where he was staying.

The truck was empty.

KIRO 7 talked to Ronda Odell, who lives across the street from the park. She said she saw two men and a woman pull up with the U-Haul on Friday before taking off because they couldn't get the vehicle to start back up after they stopped.

Her boyfriend went down to check on the truck on Saturday and saw that the locks had been broken. They then called police.

“It breaks my heart, really,” Odell said. “People can be trifling. Why do you need to take someone else’s belongings? Why can’t you work for your own?”

For Kolyadich, he says all his family wants back are the things that can't be replaced.

“Keep the furniture, we don’t care,” Kolyadich said. “We want the pictures. We want the albums, we want our memories back.”
