Two women steal from Curtis Junior High School

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — Surveillance video shows two women trying doors at Curtis Junior High School until they found one that was unlocked. Once inside the school, University Place police said they began looking for things to steal and soon found a laptop in the school's band room. Police said it appears they knew the school campus fairly well.

“There was one particular door that was left unlocked, or was left unlocked that they knew was open. So that’s where they went in,” said University Place police Officer Mike Blair.

The thefts happened Oct. 3, on a day when Curtis junior high had several after school activities underway. Both kids and parents were on campus. The video shows what appears to be a student with his mother walking down the hallway unaware that the two women are there prowling classrooms.

In another sequence a man who appears to be a teacher walks out of a classroom moments after one of the women walks by. The two seemed to blend in without being noticed, but police hope someone will see them in the video and identify them.

“At the time of this, we had a lot of events going on at the school after hours,” said Blair. “We’re hoping that people will recognize these suspects.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact University Place police or Crime Stoppers of Tacoma and Pierce County.
