A time lapse video shows the first pride flag being sent into the stratosphere – in a symbolic declaration of the universe as a LGBTQ-friendly space.

Planting peace, a nonprofit organization focused on humanitarian aid and environmental initiatives, wrote on its website that it wants to create an understanding that all people deserve to live and love freely.

A high-altitude balloon captured video with a GoPro camera before the flag returned to earth three hours later.

At its peak altitude, the flag soared 21.1 miles above the earth’s surface.
