Thieves target thrift shop collecting clothes for those in need

TUKWILA, Wash. — Thieves were caught on camera stealing from a thrift shop that is collecting clothing for those in need. The criminals also tried to destroy a security system to conceal the incident.

The surveillance video from the Thrift It! store in Tukwila shows the thieves arriving in a green or blue car on Friday morning. The two men took a donation bag that contained clothes meant for less-fortunate elementary school students.

One of the thieves began casing the store, clearly showing his face to one security camera. He later returned to take the cameras.

“Unfortunately, there are some bad apples like everywhere else,” Thrift It! owner Karl Henry said.  “But we're really committed to our community, and getting people clothes at a really good price at our thrift store.”

Henry said he often gives away items he cannot sell in the store, and he will not let this experience stop him from giving back.

Anyone with information about the men caught on camera should call Tukwila police.
