PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Puyallup man woke the woman he lived with Thursday, with blood on his hands, to tell her that he’d killed her cat.
The way he saw it, he hadn’t had much of a choice.
Pierce County Superior Court charging papers give this account:
“The gods told me I had to make a sacrifice and it was you or the cat,” the 27-year-old told the woman.
She left the house and called police.

The man used drugs, the woman told investigators. They found evidence to support that, including that he’d vomited on himself.
He told police the blood on his knuckle was from punching a wall.
He told the woman he broke the cat’s neck with a stick, and put the animal’s corpse in the garbage can.
She asked police to help her look for the cat, and that’s where they found it.
Prosecutors charged him with first-degree animal cruelty, and he pleaded not guilty Friday at arraignment.
