Surveillance footage shows Everett barista robbed at gunpoint

EVERETT, Wash. — Surveillance footage shows a man with his face covered, pulling out a gun and robbing the barista inside an Everett coffee stand. Now police -- and the woman held at gunpoint -- hope the footage will lead to his arrest.

Chloe's job is to make coffee, and she does it well. Her job is not to appease an armed criminal robbing her at gunpoint, but she did that well, too.

“I know if he’s holding a gun he’s probably nervous and stressed and I didn’t want to do anything to make him frantic and more nervous and accidentally shoot out of anger, so I opened up the drawer at the cash register and said ‘absolutely, here sir’ and gave him my till and tip jar,” she explained of her actions after the man demanded money.

Friday night the man, wearing a red bandana around his neck, walked up to one of the Espresso Avenue’s two windows and asked for change.

Chloe knew that was suspicious because opening the till would mean revealing to the suspect how much cash was on hand.

Still, she obliged, and that’s when the request took a dark turn.

The man pulled the bandana over his face, pointed a weapon, and robbed her. In addition to what was in the till and tip jar,  she gave him the extra cash the baristas keep in an envelope.

“He was pretty angry, kept saying to me I better have bigger bills somewhere so that was when I was scared because I did not have very much money, it was not a busy night at all,” she said.

Apparently, it was enough because the man took it and walked away. On the incident—captured on surveillance video—a customer appears 40 seconds later at the same window and calls 911.

Now she and the other baristas want his face everywhere in hopes he’ll be caught.

“It makes me sad that someone is at a point in their life where they need to do that and I know that person probably has people who love him and a family somewhere,” Chloe said, but so does she.

And her job is to make coffee, not put her life on the line.

“That’s the thing now that I think about. Like, man, if I didn’t do something right he could have shot me,” she concluded.

Do you know this man? He robbed an Everett barista at gunpoint Friday night. This is a clip of him casing the stand. He comes back about a minute later and pulls the gun, but this is the best view of his face. To see the full video and hear from the victim-- tune in to KIRO 7 News at 6.
