Street racing suspected in fatal Mountlake Terrace crash

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. — It is still hard for Dynese Greer to talk about what she saw just a few feet from her Mountlake Terrace home, a burning car with a woman unconscious inside.

"And I was covered in her blood, too," she said, wiping a tear.  "So it's just a lot.

She worked with her husband and another neighbor to pull the woman out, away from the flames.

"We pulled her as far away from the car as we could," she said, her voice, breaking. "There was no pulse."

Greer immediately implemented the CPR training she learned on the job at King County juvenile detention.

"We do it every year," she said.

But neither she nor the medics could save the 26-year-old Monroe woman's life.

Friends of the woman said off camera the couple had been to a concert at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe.

Those who witnessed the accident say the driver was racing with another car.  One vehicle passed the other. Then there was a loud crash.

"And there was a car in the bushes on fire," said neighbor Jeremy Pollino.

The sound woke Pollino up. What he saw spurred him to make and place this sign in his front yard.

"Because everybody likes to go 35 or 45 mph on a 25 mph road," he said.

The tragedy that happened here Friday night will likely remain with Dynese Greer for some time to come.

"So even with all of your training, it still hurts?" Greer was asked.

"Yeah," she said, wiping her eyes. "Because when you train for something like that, you train to hopefully save a life.  And when you can't, it's sad."

Mountlake Terrace Police confirmed the identity of the driver.  He is 26-year-old Michael Spieker from Edmonds.

He is being held at the Snohomish County jail or investigation of vehicular homicide.
