South Sound high school fooball game canceled after possible threat

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Clover Park School District officials canceled Friday night's football game between Lakes and Central Kitsap high schools after they heard that "someone might bring a weapon to the game."

Clover Park's spokesperson, Leanna Albrecht, said the threat was "pretty vague" and because of the timing of when officials heard about it, which was after school and when the game was scheduled to begin, the 7 p.m. game was canceled.

Police was notified and investigated the threat and determined it was not credible, Albrecht said.

She said that threat had gone directly to Lakes' principal.

Although authorities investigated and found there was no threat, the timing forced the cancellation, officials said.

Officials said maintenance and security staff will be posted at the gates where the game was to be held to alert people who had not heard about the cancellation.
