Sheriff's Office hopes to identify remains found on Mt Si

King County sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man whose skeletal remains were found on Mt. Si, near North Bend.

Police said that evidence suggests the remains may be from the mid-90s. A sketch has been created that reflects what experts believe the man looked like before his death.

On June 16, 2015, two off-trail hikers came across what they believed to be human skeletal remains near the “haystack” on Mt. Si.  Deputies were called to the scene, collected the remains and then took them to the King County Medical Examiner’s office.

The Medical Examiner’s office determined that the remains are that of a white man, 30 to 60 years old, who was likely 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall.

A cause of death has yet to be determined.

A pair of tortoise shell glasses, a Swiss Army watch and an Ortovox shovel were found with the remains.  See pictures of the items here.

In addition to those items, a green Jansport backpack and a pair of white, Nike high-top tennis shoes, size 12, were also found.  A black leather wallet was also found with the remains, but contained no identification.

Anyone who has information about the identity of the man is asked to call the King County Sheriff's Office at (206) 296-3311 or send tips to mcutips@kingcounty.gov.
