The Seattle Academy, an independent secondary school in Capitol Hill, has placed a faculty member on immediate administrative leave due to allegations he engaged in sexual misconduct online.

Gabe Cronin, a science instructor on the Capitol Hill campus for 10 years, was placed on leave Monday and has been informed by law enforcement officials that he is under formal investigation.

Head of School Joe Puggelli released the following statement on Cronin's suspension:

"The safety and well-being of our students is our priority...We worked swiftly to terminate Mr. Cronin's contact with students and our facilities. We will continue to work closely with investigators to ensure a complete understanding of the situation."

The school says it has received no information that any current or former Seattle Academy student has been the subject of inappropriate conduct, and that Cronin has not "to the school's knowledge" been investigated for unlawful activity or inappropriate behavior.

In addition to teaching science, Cronin has been faculty leader of the academy's robotics programs.

Puggelli went on to say, "Until we received this news, we had no reason for concern about Mr. Cronin's interaction with students, and are shocked and saddened by this."
