Seattle Humane is preparing to take up to 300 pets, mostly cats and dogs, from California shelters after the animals were displaced by the devastating wildfires.
The animals will arrive on several flights over the next month. Seattle Humane will not receive pets who were separated from their owners, and is instead focusing on relieving overcrowding in shelters.
The first pets arrive at Sea-Tac Airport in the afternoon on Nov. 20 and will include 25-60 pets, mostly cats, from Los Angeles County. Staff and volunteers are also driving down to California to transport larger dogs up to shelters in Washington.
Seattle Humane is asking for donations to help move more pets from affected areas in California, and is also encouraging the local community to come in and adopt.
