Search suspended for missing hiker in the Cascades

The search for a missing hiker in the Cascades has been suspended, the King County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.
A 57-year-old man from Russia had a head injury and did not have food or cold weather clothing, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s office. Sergey Cherepov was in town on business and visited the Goldmyer Hot Springs on Thursday, Sept. 14, with friends. He left the springs alone to hike back to the parking area, but when his friends returned Cherepov was not there. They could not find him and called police Friday.

Cherepov injured his head after falling recently and was wearing a bandage.
King County Search and Rescue volunteers have been searching in the area near Snoqualmie Mountain since Friday. “The search is extremely large, with dense forests and vegetation which have made it difficult to search,” according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s office. “Trails in the area have been searched but rescuers fear he may have fallen which would make it difficult to find him in the thick brush off the trails. Additionally, the weather has been a factor.”
