Shoreline, Wash. — A cat had its head crushed in after it was stolen from an animal shelter in Shoreline this week, officials said.

Tuesday around noon, a volunteer with Whisker City Rescue called police after noticing a cat enclosure had been broken into and the cat it housed was missing.

The rescue shared a notice over its Facebook page, saying a blanket with blood on it was left in the enclosure which housed the cat named Quixote.

“My guess is he put up a struggle,” shelter officials said.

Along with the bloody blanket, a yellow poncho was left behind. Writing on the poncho said, ‘Homeless need a home. … Just not in my backyard, not Richmond Beach.”

An employee with the shelter called Shoreline police again around 5 p.m. Tuesday, saying the cat had been found dead in the shelter’s dumpster.

The cat’s head had been crushed in.

The animal's body will be taken to a vet for an examination.

Officials with the King County Sheriff’s Office said there is no evidence the cat was tortured before being killed. An investigation into the death is ongoing.

The shelter said Thursday a private donor is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the cat's killing.

Seattle Humane is also offering up to $5,000 in rewards for information that leads to the person's arrest.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at (206) 296-3311.

Police said as of yet, there is no connection between Quixote’s death and an animal cruelty case that resulted in an animal's death in Edmonds in August.

Please print this and share it with all local businesses in Shoreline.
