Father, son rescued after harrowing night in Cascades

Two hikers – a father and a son – were rescued late Friday afternoon from some cliffs near Mount Defiance west of Snoqualmie Pass.

Henning and Paul Braess are experienced hikers visiting from Germany, but they were unfamiliar with the local area.

A search was launched after they went on a day hike on Thursday and did not return.

The King County Sheriff’s Office said Friday at noon that the hikers were located and a technical rescue team with ropes made their way to the site.

The father and son suffered some hypothermia but are walking down with rescuers.

Weather in the area was in the 30s with snow reported in the search areas.
