Thursday:

[11:25 p.m.]

According to a note from Meteorologist Morgan Palmer, there'll be a general tapering of snow for the Seattle area over the next hour into midnight and 1 a.m. as well as just spotty mainly minor snow showers south.

We'll have rain showers during the morning and afternoon with not much sunshine with highs in the lower 40s.

[9:56 p.m.]

The National Weather Service Seattle said the snow is extending north through Island County. It's expected to hit Whatcom County in the next hour.

[9:20 p.m.]

Snow has started to accumulate on the ground in Belltown. Video from Ballard shows snow falling there as well. Sea-Tac Airport officials say at this point, runways have been treated and cleared. Operations are now going on as normal, with barely a trace of snow.

[8:55 p.m.]

Multiple vehicles are off the road along State Route 512 at a slick spot, Trooper T. Bartolac with the Washington State Patrol says. One vehicle might be on its top.

[8:35 p.m.]

Seattle transportation officials are out treating the streets as snow begins to fall around the city. Snow is also falling in the Tacoma area.

[8:05 p.m.]

Snow is seen falling around the Seattle area! Viewers report seeing snowfall in Belltown, Capitol Hill, downtown Seattle and other neighborhoods around the city.

[7:45 p.m.]

Washington State Department of Transportation traffic officials say they are starting to see minor snow accumulations on King County state highways. Officials say crews will be out "all night keeping roads clear."

[7:20 p.m.]

Light snow is being reported for the first time tonight at Sea-Tac Airport. Snowflakes are coming down around some parts of the Seattle area, but not accumulating on the ground.

[6:50 p.m.]

Viewers ask why radar is showing snow over some locations while flakes are not visible.

KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer answers, 'The air is very dry so the radar is detecting snowflakes aloft "evaporating" before reaching the surface.'

[6:25 p.m.]

Snow in Western Washington is moving northeast. It will change over to brief freezing rain, or rain, according to the National Weather Service of Seattle.

Viewers are reporting snowfall in Enumclaw, with persistent high winds.

[5:55 p.m.]

Light flurries in Federal Way mark the first sighting of snow in King County.

Meteorologist Morgan Palmer explains that strong and dry winds coming out of the cascades is causing snow to dissipate from the cloud on its path to the ground.

“So what I want to point out on the PinPoint StormTracker, it indicates snowflakes, but it is detecting snowflakes aloft. We’re looking at the radar up at Camano Island, so we’re looking a little higher, close to a mile or more up in the atmosphere. A lot of these snowflakes, you look up, they’re up there, they’re just not making it to the surface quite yet.”

[5:30 p.m.]

KIRO 7's Kevin McCarty reports that I-5 in Olympia has light traffic, most likely because many people left early to stay ahead of the storm. However, some side streets in Thurston County are having problems.

Meanwhile in Lakewood, a swirl of snowflakes is falling. KIRO 7's Natasha Chen reports that many drivers are slowing down on roads in the area.

[5:08 p.m.] The area around the Thurston County Courthouse is blanketed with snow.

[5 p.m.]

Snow in Centralia has picked back up, according to KIRO 7 reporter Graham Johnson, who is out in the field. He reports that some vehicles are sliding on the roads.

[4:45 p.m.]

The system bringing snow flurries is expected to hit the Seattle-area around 5 p.m.

Dry air over Seattle may keep snow from being a major issue. The initial snow band that moved north and hit some areas in Western Washington is weakening.

[4:38 p.m.]

Sea-Tac is treating runways for snow.

[4:25 p.m.]

Enough snow collected in Centralia for some children to make a snowman.

[4:15 p.m.]

A crash in Vancouver on State Route 14 is blocking some traffic. Read real-time traffic updates here.

[3:55 p.m.] Snow is sticking in Lewis County. KIRO 7's Graham Johnson is reporting in the area and heard that icy conditions reported in South Lewis County.

[3:24 p.m.]

Snow is coming down in Olympia.

[2:58 p.m.]

KIRO 7 News has received reports of snow in Yelm and Tumwater.

[2:45 p.m.]

The weather will likely impact the evening commute, especially south, but possibly even in the Seattle area.

p>[2:24 p.m.]

Snow falling in parts of Thurston County.

[2 p.m.]

Snow is sticking in Chehalis. National Weather Service in Seattle says a spotter near Chehalis reports 1" of snow on the ground.

As the snow on radar works north, it will run into drier air so KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer expects mainly light snow/flurries until after dark when we can get the atmosphere to moisten up a bit.

[1:10 p.m.] Snow arrives in Vancouver, Washington.

[1 p.m.]

The National Weather Service’s Portland office reports moderate to heavy snow falling around noon.

Visibility was reduced to 1/4 of a mile or less, according to the Weather Sevice.

Here’s a time lapse showing the accumulation in Portland.
