Port Orchard Family gets threatening notes and voodoo-like doll

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A Port Orchard woman said threatening notes and something that resembles a voodoo doll have began showing up on her front lawn shortly after the family relocated from Hawaii in April.

The woman, who asked that KIRO 7 not release her identity to protect her and her four children, said it was after she hung a flag representing native Hawaiians that she first spotted the notes crumpled into balls and left in her yard.

“One day, (I) opened one up and found that it was something wrong, something hurtful, something hateful,” said the woman, who asked that KIRO 7 call her Day.

One of the expletive-riddled notes reads, “We own Hawaii, just die, you're going to be sorry. Move before something happens to your dirty kids.”

Another reads, “You and your flag is (sic) going to burn,” and uses the N-word.

The woman said that on Wednesday, she received a package containing a beheaded doll with the arms torn off and bound, feet tied together, the body stabbed with needles with drippings of red wax, resembling blood.

“I need to leave with my kids temporarily because I truly feel that this threat is serious,” said Day.

Day said she reported all this to the Port Orchard police and U-S Postal service, and Port Orchard police confirmed that they had taken a report and were investigating.

Day said she doesn't think her neighbors, or people in Washington are racist, but blames the threats on one or two individuals who have chosen to target her and her family because they are Hawaiian.

“I feel like I want you to be prosecuted,” Day said, crying. “But that’s not my culture. My culture is to forgive. My culture is to make sure people get help.”

Day said she has received some threatening messages on social media, but has also gotten support from people in Port Orchard and her native Hawaii after she posted pictures of the threatening notes and doll on her Facebook page.
