Suspect arrested in connection with Everett coffee stand robberies

EVERETT, Wash. — Police have arrested a suspect Tuesday in connection with a string of Everett coffee stand robberies.

According to police, on Saturday two people watching local news coverage provided information that identified a possible suspect and a vehicle that matched the descriptions from several robberies.

As detectives investigated, the Columbia Bank in Snohomish was robbed Tuesday. It was believed the suspect was responsible.

Police arrested the suspect and he was interviewed by detectives.

Police said the suspect admitted to robbing the bank and espresso stands.

The suspect has been booked into the Snohomish County Jail on multiple counts of robbery.

One day after we reported on the third armed robbery of an Everett coffee stand in a month, a fourth stand was hit Wednesday afternoon, this time on Broadway and 16th street.

And now Everett police say they believe the most recent three are connected.

The stand robbed back in December caught the culprit on video and a suspect has since been arrested. But the most recent three robberies have all happened within the past week, and the employees’ description of the man responsible have been nearly the same every time.

Wednesday, Everett police officers once again surrounded an espresso stand and once again the woman inside told them about the man who stole her money.

“During the robbery he did imply that he had a handgun although none was mentioned and none was seen, and that again fits the description of prior robberies,” explained Sgt. Maryjane Hacker with the Everett Police Department.

That last part is what is so concerning.

In each of the three January incidents, the robber claimed to have a gun but didn’t show it.

He demanded money, the baristas obliged, and he left on foot.

Attempted K-9 tracks were unsuccessful.

The women who run 13 Buffalos Coffee Co. — the second Everett stand robbed this month — told us Tuesday that unfortunately crimes like this are scary, but not surprising.

“No, comes with this business.

I’ve been doing this long enough, I know it just comes with, you’re expecting it,” said longtime barista Lisa Deshazer.

Police say it absolutely shouldn’t be that way, and they’re diligently working to make sure it isn’t.

“Somebody probably knows who this person is and we’d be thankful to get any kind of information about the person. You can be anonymous,” Sgt. Hacker said.

This is the robber's description given by workers: thin white male, about 6 feet tall, unshaven, with light brown hair.

Each time, he has been wearing a brown hoodie and blue jeans.
