Police: Officer injured while saving handcuffed suspect from creek

SHELTON, Wash. — A Shelton police officer was injured by a suspect Friday night, police said.

The officer arrested a 26-year-old man in Shelton on warrants. During the search of the suspect, who was handcuffed, police said the suspect raised his head and hit the officer’s face, then fled.

Police said the suspect ran and dove into a creek. He was quickly underwater, police said.

The officer jumped into the creek after the suspect to save him and take him into custody, according to police.

The suspect continued resisting the officer; they began struggling in the water. Police said the suspect repeatedly kicked the officer in the water, causing injury.

Another officer jumped into the creek to help, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked into Mason County Jail for the warrants and resisting arrest.

Police said the injured officer was taken to a hospital for injuries, treated and then released.
