A police officer exchanged gunfire with a bank robbery suspect in Auburn.
The Auburn Police Department tweeted that a bank robbery happened at Key Bank around noon on Wednesday.
A bike officer spotted a suspect vehicle after the robbery. The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran.
Police told KIRO 7 News that gunfire was then exchanged in the area of 2nd and D streets, which is now closed for an investigation.
Residents who live in the apartments across the street heard the gunshots.
"He shot at them, 'boom boom,'" said Wayne Fowler. "It didn't look good for the guy. If you shoot at the police, I'm afraid they're going to shoot back. They should be able to protect themselves."
The getaway vehicle was a white four-door Chevrolet. The woman who was driving stopped the car near the police station. The suspect got out and ran. Investigators said he shot at an officer on a bicycle, and that officer shot back. The suspect was wounded; the officer wasn't hurt.
Officers did CPR on the suspect until help arrived. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center and was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
The getaway driver was arrested and was interviewed by police.

Police are investigating if the robbery suspect is the same man who robbed the Umpqua Bank in Auburn on Saturday.
Valley Investigations is handling the case and is made up of detectives from various police departments in South King County.
KIRO 7 asked if the money from the bank robbery was in the car. Police would only say that evidence found in the car does link it to the robbery.
The suspect's shoes appeared to have red dye on them, which could be from dye packs that exploded in the stolen money from the bank.
The Key Bank on East Main Street closed for the rest of the day on Wednesday.
The shooting happened in an area where students and parents walk to and from school. One bullet pierced the front window of the house across the street. No one was home.
"Very fortunate no one else was injured in this incident," said Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker.
