A man stole an yacht in South Lake Union early Tuesday morning and rammed several other boats, police said.
“About 4:30 a.m., police responded to a reported theft of the boat from its moorage in Chandler’s Cove,” police spokesman Mark Jamieson said in a statement. “The suspect, an adult male, managed to start the boat and then proceeded to ram other vessels nearby as he attempted to turn the boat around.
“The man then jumped into Lake Union where patrol officers were able to retrieve him from the water around 4:45 am. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation and will be booked into the King County Jail once he is medically cleared.”
Detectives were assigned to the ongoing investigation. Police said the stolen yacht was 80 feet, but folks at the dock told KIRO 7 it was 92 feet and selling for roughly $2.4 million.
Damage was estimated at well over $100,000 and could increase, KIRO 7 was told.
