Police looking for suspect in Renton burglary, police chase

RENTON, Wash. — Renton police are searching for one of two suspects reported to have burglarized a Renton appliance store and then led police on a chase.

Police said they received a call from a witness early Friday who said they saw men moving TV sets through a broken window at a store at 134 Rainier Ave South.  The TV sets were being put into a U-Haul van.

The van was seen leaving northbound from the store. Officers found the vehicle in the Skyway area and a chase ensued.

At one point, the van slowed down in Seattle and one suspect jumped out and got away, according to Renton police.

The driver of the van crashed on South Alaska Street at about 2:45 a.m. and ran from the scene. He was arrested after he was tracked by a police K-9.

South Alaska Street was blocked in both directions between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Rainier Avenue South.

The driver, an 18-year-old Seattle man, was booked into the King County Jail.

Renton police are still looking for the second man.
