Dozens of people were arrested after multiple King County agencies cracked down on illegal street racing last week.
After safety concerns from citizens and businesses, police agencies from Auburn, Kent, Renton and Tukwila teamed up with the Washington State Patrol to create a task force on illegal street racing.
Authorities said illegal street racing events led to serious injury collisions, property damage to private businesses, multiple fights, shootings, stabbings and other criminal activities.
In multiple cities throughout King County, officers arrested 40 people for unlawful race attendance, three were arrested for street racing, one was arrested for minor in possession and one was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
Police said one stolen vehicle was recovered and another fled from officers but was not apprehended. Multiple traffic infractions and warning were given to people who were at the races.
Police plan to continue to work on traffic safety.
