Pockets of lowland snow, wintry mix in some areas

SEATTLE — Viewers have reported light snow falling in such areas as Kent, Issaquah, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Graham and south Bellevue early Tuesday morning.

KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard said some spots at 500 feet or above could get some slushy accumulation.

Nick is live during our morning newscast, pinpointing where snow is falling in updates every 10 minutes. Turn to KIRO 7 or watch here: http://kiro.tv/LiveNews

Forecast summary:

  • Pockets of lowland rain/snow mix early
  • Slushy, very isolated and especially 500'
  • Turning to rain

As expected, a weather system is generally weakening as it comes in (calling this a "storm" is too strong a word).  The front will bring a few light showers of snow or a rain/snow mix Tuesday morning with little to no accumulation.  So far, we have some light snow falling in the South Sound and areas near Graham and Maple Valley and the Black Diamond area.

Some spots at 500 feet could get some slushy accumulation of less than an inch and temperatures won't be cold enough for any freezing of moisture already on the roads.  Also, temperatures slightly above freezing means that snow would have to be heavy to cause road problems at all. This should be a pretty sporadic occurrence.

In fact, we warmer air moving into the area now with south wind becoming breezy.  It'll be breezy all day today with temps making into the lower-40s.  I really don't see much rainfall after the mid to late morning hours, until a convergence zone or two fires up this afternoon. We could see one in King/Snohomish counties and one in Skagit County.

Under the convergence zone, we could get some small hail showers at any time in the afternoon and early evening, so we'll have to watch these areas.

We're all rain Wednesday in the lowlands before fewer showers for late week with the chance for some snow to mix in during any overnight and early morning showers mainly on Friday. The weekend right now looks more dry than wet.

We'll finally warm up closer to normal by the middle of next week.
