SEATTLE — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information after a sick dog was thrown from a vehicle in West Seattle in September.

The dog did not survive.

Officials with the Seattle Animal Shelter said the dog was thrown from a car near Fairmount Park Elementary School on Sept. 24.

A witness saw a person described as a heavy-set, African-American man with dreadlocks, driving the purple Dodge minivan from which the dog was thrown.

“This is a very disturbing case of callousness and an act of animal cruelty,” Ann Graves, with the Seattle Animal Shelter, said.

Anyone who has information or recognizes the dog or description of the van should call Seattle Animal Shelter’s Don Baxter at (206) 386-4288 and reference case number C04542592.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person responsible.

“The dog was in clear medical distress,” officials with the Seattle Animal Shelter said. “And was suffering when someone tossed him from a stopped vehicle.”

WARNING: A graphic image of the dog, in the process of dying, was provided by shelter officials. You can click to see it if interested in helping identify the animal.

For those who don't want to view the image of the dog, shelter officials describe the American Pitbull Terrier as an adult male, around 4-6 years old, grey/blue in color with white on his neck, chest and feet.
