Man hit, killed by train in Rainier Valley

SEATTLE — Link light rail service was stopped between the Columbia City and Rainier Beach stations for hours after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a train Monday morning.

At about 6:38 a.m., a man was trying to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Way South within the north crosswalk at South Othello Street.  The man appeared to have been crossing west to east against the signal light.

A northbound train struck the man.

Firefighters responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. A hydraulic jack was used to lift the train up and recover the man's body.

The train was blocking the intersection and traffic was being detoured around the scene, but has since been cleared.

Link light rail service resumed at about 10:15 a.m.
