Patty Murray opposes Donald Trump but won't boycott inauguration

Sen. Patty Murray is fighting against many of Donald Trump's policies and she's sharply questioning some of his cabinet nominees. But she has decided not to join fellow Democrats who are boycotting the inauguration.

Following a promotion in January, Murray is now the 3rd ranking Democrat in the Senate.

And she's been tough in questioning Trump's nominees.

We saw her grill prospective health secretary Sen. Tom Price over potential insider stock trading.

“Let me just say I believe this is inappropriate and we need answers to this,” she told him.

When we talked with her today, she explained why she's been so tough.

“We have a responsibility here to make sure that the people in those agencies know the issues and are conflict free,” Murray said.

She's been in the senate for 24 years-- and has never heard such anxiety from her constituents.

“So many come up to me when I'm out walking in the state  or I'm at the grocery store with tears in their eyes, We don't know. We don't know much about this president and what policies he's really going to push.

Still she won’t boycott the inauguration.

“I am going not because I support President Trump or voted for him, quite the contrary. I'm going in support of this democracy and this country. And our ability to have a transition of power peacefully which is unique in this world.”
